The View from the Pulpit:
Dear Fellow Saints at Resurrection,
I wanted to take this opportunity in as we enter July to share with you a parable that I read recently that seemed to me to be perfect for this time of year:
Grandpa’s eyes sparkled as he turned the pages of his new seed catalog. When he had seen it all, he turned to his grandson, and high school senior, and said:
“My boy, I get this book every year for free. Look at these beautiful colors of nature. Look at these beautiful asters, and petunias, and green peas and blood red beets and delicious yellow corn!
My boy, for years this seed catalog has been one of my favorite books. But the number one book is the Bible! And rightly so, because it is the Word of God. But there are some who doubt its teachings. They scoff at the miracle of the loaves and fishes. The call the miracle of resurrection of our Savior a fantasy. Yet these same non-believers will plant tiny seeds that will bring forth flowers and fruits and vegetables. They are quick to proclaim their cynicism, but they give themselves away when they plant a seed into the ground. One cannot thumb through the seed catalog without believing!
Never, my boy, be without these two great books: the seed catalog that speaks to the miracle of life; and the Bible that speaks to the miracle of God’s love.”
This is my wish for all of my Resurrection family this beautiful summer season. Don’t forget to look all around you and see the miracle of life. Don’t forget to worship wherever you are so that you can begin to understand the miracle of God’s love – a love so powerful that His very own Son would die for each and every one of us so that our sins would be paid, and that we would be His very own sons and daughters. Don’t forget to read your Bible daily, and to be a part of a corporate Bible Study, so your faith can be daily strengthened as you grow and mature as a disciple of Jesus the Savior.
Now that’s a wonderful miracle as we enjoy the summer heat and breezes, the sand and the sun, the glory of God’s creation and His great love for all people!
