The View from the Pulpit:

Dear People of God, Gathered Around Word and Sacraments,

“Good Morning, Lord!”

One person wakes up and says, “Good morning, Lord!”  Another wakes up and says, “Good Lord, is it morning?”   The same awakening event – but very different perspectives!  As I reviewed the November/December calendar, my thoughts were “Good Lord!  Is it almost Thanksgiving?  And then Advent?  And Christmas?  How in the world will I ever keep pace with the movement of time, events, schedules, etc!”  I didn’t say, “Thank You, Lord, for all the blessings you have given me, including time, my talents, my family, etc.” – NO, it was “Good Lord, it is almost Thanksgiving!”  I didn’t think, “Prepare the way of the Lord!  Behold, your King is coming!”  NO – it was “How am I ever going to prepare all of those special sermons and services?!”

So it goes – the challenge (there’s that tough word, again!) to keep the Lord at the center of my life and work.  It is easy to fall into the trap of not thinking about the goodness and mercy of God – and thus failing to thank Him for the multitude of His blessings!

PAUSE with me for a moment … THINK about God’s blessings … OPEN your heart to celebrate His Son, your Savior, Jesus … ACT upon the many opportunities (there’s that word, too!) God presents to witness and serve … PRAY that your perspective will be: “Good morning, Lord!”
